(For) Participant 1: Sadhguru, it is said that Adi Shankara entered the body of a king and inhabited it for a length of time. Is this actually possible? If so how? What kind of yogic mastery makes such a feat possible? 

Sadhguru,据说Adi Shankara进入了一个国王的身体并停留了一段时间。这是可能的吗?如果是,那是怎么做到的?要达到什么样的瑜伽境界才能掌握这种本领?

 

Sadhguru: It is not really such a feat. Adi Shankara got into an argument with a man. He won the argument. Then, that man's wife maneuvered herself into the argument, you know women (Laughter)? And, Adi Shankara is a certain level of logic. You shouldn't argue with a man like that.But she started… she negotiated herself into the argument, saying, “You defeated my husband, but he is not whole. We are two halves of the same thing. So you must also argue with me.” How can you beat this logic (Laughter)? So, arguments started with a woman. Then she saw she is losing. Then she started asking him questions about human sexuality.  

这其实不算什么本领。Adi Shankara陷入了一场和一个男人的争辩。他赢了。然后,那个男人的妻子想办法介入了其中,你懂的,女人们……Adi Shankara的逻辑是达到了一定层次的。你不应该和这样的人争论。但是她介入到了争辩之中,说:“你赢了我的丈夫,但他还不是全部,他只是一半,我是那另一半。所以你也必须和我角逐。”谁能打倒这个逻辑?所以,一场和女人的争辩开始了。后来,她发现她快输了。于是她开始问他有关性的问题。

 

Shankara said whatever he said. Then she went into more details and then she asked, “What do you know by experience?” Well, Shankara is a Brahmachari. Then he knew that this is a trick to defeat him. So he said, “I need a months’ break. We will hold the argument at this level. We’ll start from here after a month. Just give me a month.” So he went to a place where there was a cave. He went inside the cave and told his disciples, no matter what happens. Do not allow anybody into this cave because I'm going to leave my body and look for another possibility for some time. Whatever happens, don't let anybody enter this cave. Then it so happened, a king was bitten by a cobra and he died. When a man dies or even a woman when she dies… we have told you about the pancha pranas? If I go into this detail (Laughs) it’s a very technical question. Are you interested in all this?

Participants: Yes.

是的。

 

Sadhguru: Oh! Then we have told you about how the life energies manifest in five qualities. The prana is happening in five different dimensions. It is called prana vayu, samana vayu, apana vayu, udhana and vyana. These five manifestations of prana have distinct… distinct functions to it. Prana vayu is in charge of respiratory action and thought process and the sensation of touch. When someone dies, how do you… how do you check, whether someone is alive or dead? You check his breath has stopped. When one’s breath has stopped, you say he is dead. The breath has stopped because the prana vayu has begin to… begun to exit. After the breath has stopped, it will take up to one-and-a-half hours for the pranayu… prana vayu to leave completely. But still the other four dimensions will be there. This is why it was set up after the breath stops, you must wait for one-and-a-half hours minimum before you cremate someone because he is still alive in many other ways.

噢,那么我有和你们提过,生命能量如何以五种特性显现的吧。Prana在五个不同的维度发生,分别为prana vayu, samana vayu, apana vayu, udhana 和 vyana. Only thing is we want to wait till his sensation is gone, so that he doesn't feel the burn. See we are very compassionate (Few laugh). We wait for one-and-a-half hours so that his thought process, his respiratory action and his sensations are gone. That’s not the guy (A participant screams) we are talking about (Laughter). Now the remaining part of the prana will still be there. And the vyana, the last dimension of the prana could last up to twelve to fourteen days. Wherever there is no sensation, whichever part of your body, where there is no sensation, you must understand, that part of the body has no prana vayu in it. Right now, if you take your hair, if you do this, there is no sensation. Only if you pull it this way, there is sensation. Because here there is no prana vayu but still it grows. This is the reason why even after somebody is dead, even for a corpse, after few days still the hair growth happens, nail growth happens. Do you know? Are there any undertakers (Few laugh)?

这么做的唯一原因是,我们想要等到他的知觉消失了才将他火化,这样他就感觉不到被火烧。看,我们多仁慈。我们等一个半小时,等到他的思维过程、呼吸和感觉都消失。现在Prana的其他维度仍在那里。而Vanya,prana的最后一个维度可以持续12-14天。哪里没有感觉,你的身体的哪个部位没有感觉,就说明那个部位没有prana vayu。现在,如果你像这样碰你的头发,你没有感觉。只有像这样扯,你才有感觉。因为这里没有Prana Vayu,但它仍然会长。这就是为什么,即使一个人死后,甚至是尸体,几天之后他的毛发和指甲仍会继续长。你们知道吗?这里有没有殡葬业从业人员?

 

I'm just asking if it's your profession. After one is dead, up to twelve to fourteen days, hair growth will happen, simply because this can grow just with vyana, with simple maintenance of the system, it will happen. Though other parts of the body may begin to rot, still vyana functions. So when Shankara left his body, he left his vyana in the system because his body should be maintained. And the king who died, died of a cobra venom.  When cobra venom enters your system, what is happening to the system is, your blood begins to coagulate.When blood becomes thicker than what it is, the (Talks aside: speaks in Tamil - not transcribed) When blood begins to coagulate, breath becomes hard because (Audio Cut) Hello? (Audio Cut) Breathing and circulation are very directly connected. When circulation becomes difficult, it becomes hard to breath. So you… oh… (Talks aside: please give me a just give me a gooseneck microphone). Your breath will stop well before your prana vayu has exited. In many ways, this is an ideal condition for one who wants to… when somebody wants to enter that body, it’s ideal. Normally, it would give you only one-and-a-half hours’ time. But in…when a person has got cobra’s venom in the system, it will give up to four-and-a-half hours’ time.

So Shankara got this opportunity that there was four-and-a-half hours’ time. So he very easily entered that body and he was there to answer these questions experientially. So, he went through that process. But the king's people, there were some wise people there. When they saw a man who they had declared dead, suddenly sits up and full of energy and they could recognize by his behavior, it is not the same person. This is someone else in the same body. 

所以Shankara得到了这个机会——有四个半小时的时间。他轻而易举地进入了(国王的)身体,想通过亲身经历来回答那些(女人问的关于性的)问题。所以,他那么做了。国王身边有一些智者,他们看到一个已被宣告死亡的人,突然坐起来,充满活力,而且从行为上看根本不是同一个人。这是另一个人了进入了他的身体。

 

So what they did (Laughs) they sent soldiers all over the city, saying whoever is dead, whoever, wherever you see a body, burn it immediately. Because now the king has come alive, he should not leave and go back. So soldiers went looking everywhere. Anybody, anywhere just burn it quickly. So that, if that is the person, who has come here, cannot go back. So we still have our king, a different guy but he looks the same, so what (Laughter). 

于是,他们派士兵去到城里的各个角落,命令他们,不管看到谁死了,不管是谁,只要看到尸体,就立刻把它烧掉。因为现在国王已经复活了,不应该让他再离开。所以士兵们寻遍每一个角落。不管是谁,不管在哪里,只要看到尸体就立刻把它焚烧了。这样一来,如果是那个尸体的主人到了国王身上,他就不能再回去(自己的身体里)了。这样我们就还能保有我们的国王,虽然不是同一个人,但那又怎样,他看起来是一样的。

 

So is such a thing possible? Yes, very much possible. Is it a feat? It is not really such a feat. A little bit of understanding of the mechanics of how life happens within you. Now, if one wants to enter a living body, someone was alive, to enter that, that would take a lot more. To enter one who has just exited, that's much simpler. Within first one-and-a-half hours it's ideal because the necessary vacuum has happened at the same time everything else is on. This was (Laughs) this used to be common, not very common, but almost everybody would've heard that something like this happened somewhere. So, this is the reason why when somebody's breath begins to become recede, in India, they always keep them just outside the house. They will put Samrani (Referring to a kind of incense used in religious activities) and they will start chanting something. This is one thing is to comfort the one who is departing. Another thing is to ensure that somebody else doesn't usurp the body. 

所以,这种事情可能吗?是的,非常可能。是什么了不起的本事吗?算不上。只需要对你内在生命的运作机制稍有了解即可。现在,如果有人想要进入一个活的身体,要进入一个活着的身体,这个难度会大很多。但如果要进入一个刚离开的身体,那就容易得多。(呼吸停止后的)一个半小时之内,条件很理想,因为留出了必要的真空,而同时其他一切都还运行着。这个在过去还算普遍,不是非常平常,但几乎每个人都会听说过在哪里有发生这样的事情。所以,这就是为什么在印度,当一个人的呼吸开始衰竭,他们就会把他的身体放到室外。他们会点上Samrani(一种宗教仪式上用的熏香),然后开始一些唱诵。这一方面是为了安慰快要离开的人,另一方面是为了确保其他人不会侵入这个身体。

 

So many methods and many protections were created so that these things don't happen. There are many ways to see that such things don't happen. But today, it is such a rare occurrence that now you started referring to it as a feat. So maybe, you would like to see it happen. But most people are dying with tubes and needles stuck all over them. So I don't think that will offer much of an opportunity. Because their breath is not theirs, the machines are breathing for them. So we should go and check and see whether still prana is still on or prana is gone, they’re just keeping the breath on through a machine. This is something we can check. I think it's very much possible. Even after prana vayu is completely gone, they're keeping the breath going on and extending it by a few days or hours because it adds up into nice fat bills. It's good for the economy (Few laugh).

人们创造了很多方法和保护措施,来确保这种事情不会发生。很多方法可以做到这一点。但如今,这种事情变得如此稀有,以至于你们开始称它为一种本领。也许,你想要看到这种事情发生。但大多数人死去的时候,他们全身上下都被插满了各种针管。这就不能提供那样的机会,因为他们的呼吸都不是自己的,而是机器在替他们呼吸。所以,我们得去检查他的prana到底还在不在。他们的呼吸是通过机器来维持的。我们可以检查一下。我认为这是很有可能的。即使在prana vayu完全离开后,他们的呼吸都还被延长几天或几个小时,这样一来,医疗账单就会更加壮观,这对经济有好处。

 

(For) Participant 2: Sadhguru, could you tell us something about Runanubandha or physical memory? Can we avoid this? Is this a curse or a blessing for a spiritual seeker?  

萨古鲁,你可以和我们说说Runanubandha或身体记忆吗?我们是否可以避免?这对一个灵性探寻者来说是福还是祸?

 

Sadhguru: Today, lot of sport coaches, people who coach sports persons are all talking about muscle memory. People understand that if you go by your mental memory, many things cannot be done. So you've to build muscle memory about doing a particular action with a certain level of perfection that unthinkingly, you can just do it. So we are conscious that we can build memory into the body. Well, but this need not be discovered now. We know very well the body is full of memory. Every cell in your body, carries enormous memory. That's how you've a form and a shape. Depending upon the kind of memory that our parents gave us accordingly everything is formed. 

今天,很多体育教练都在谈论肌肉记忆。人们明白,如果你通过头脑的记忆,很多事情都无法做到,所以你必须对某个达到一定完美层次的动作建立起肌肉的记忆,这样你可以不假思索就能做到。我们是知道我们可以将记忆植入身体之中。但这一点不是现在才发现的。我们很清楚地知道这个身体充满了各种记忆。你体内的每一个细胞都携带着大量的记忆。你的形态和形状就是这么来的。我们的父母给了我们某种记忆,由此不同的形态就产生了。

 

But now we are talking about imparting memory to the body from outside. Yes. You will see by memory, by muscle memory or by body, physical memory, if you go on sitting in one place as you get older, this will get stronger in you, that even in your home, if you start sitting in one particular place, somehow you go round and round and settle down in the same place. This your dogs do, cats do, other animals do. It's okay for them. A human being is not supposed to be like this but they have built Runanubandha with even, you know, a pillow. So they can build that physical memory which comforts them, which gives them some sense of belonging. 

但现在我们谈论的是,从外部对身体输入记忆。是的。你会看到,由于肌肉记忆或身体记忆,如果你一直坐在同一个地方,随着年龄增长,这种倾向会变得更加明显。甚至在家里,如果你开始老坐在一个地方,不知怎地你绕来绕去还是会在同一个地方坐下。你的狗,猫或者其他动物都是这样。这对它们没问题,但一个人类不应该是这样的。人们甚至和一个枕头建立起了Runanbandha(身体记忆)。他们可以和任何给予舒适或某种归属感的东西建立身体记忆。

 

This Runanubandha what it means is, it gives you a certain level of belonging, certain level of being at home, with certain kind of memory, if you build in the system, with that kind of person with that kind of situation, you feel at home. This is what you call as home. Your home is Runanubandha. Why one who is on the spiritual path, always wanders or moves away from home and keeps minimal contact with those things is because even inanimate things can bind you big time. So Runanubandha means body develops a certain memory with things that it’s come in touch with. It can be a thing. It can be a place. It can be another person. More and more of this kind of memory means these are all good, if you want to be anchored to one place. 

Runanubandha的意思是,它会给你某种归属感,某种在家的感觉。如果你在系统中建立某种记忆,和那种人在一起或处在那种情形时,你会觉得像在家。这就是你所谓的家。你的家就是Runanbandha。为什么一个灵性探寻者总是云游四方或者远离家门,并和那些东西保持最低限度的接触呢?这是因为,即使无生命的东西都可能牢牢拴住你。Runanubandha的意思是,身体与它所接触的东西发展了某种记忆。它可以是某个东西,某个地方,或某个人。这种记忆越多意味着……这些都挺好的,如果你想要固定在一个地方的话。

 

A ship throws anchor when it doesn't want to sail anywhere. But when it wants to sail, it has to pull up its anchor. Otherwise, it's not going to go anywhere. Even if the winds are great, it will not sail because the anchor is down. So Runanubandha is like anchor. If you don't pull it up, you can flutter your sail as much as you want, but the anchor won't let you travel anywhere. It won't let you be a sea-farer. You will be docked. That's a right word. You are docked.

一只船不想航行时,就会抛下锚。但当它想要起航时,它就必须拉起锚。否则,它哪儿都去不了。就算风再大,它也无法航行,因为锚被放下了。所以Runanubandha就像是锚,如果你不拿掉它,你可以尽管摇动你的帆,但这个锚会让你哪儿都去不了。它不会让你成为一个水手。你会被滞留在岸边。是的,这是个合适的词,你被滞留了。
